The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) took part in August at the Energy Modelling Platform – Joint Global Training School 2024 (EMP-G) hosted by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste. An incredible opportunity for the division of Energy Systems (KTH-dES) for cooperating, sharing and teaching how to use energy models and tools for a greener and more sustainable future.

The EMP-G training school, developed with UNDESA, IAEA, UNDP, IRENA, The World Bank Group, SEforALL, WRI, Imperial College London, the OpTIMUS community of practice, and the Climate Compatible Growth, has the main goal of creating a space where free trainings, discussions and cooperation are able to create awareness, arise interest, and teach models and tools needed for a sustainable planning. Our Phd students and researchers from the energy department took part in these trainings, supporting the capacity building in southern countries. Francesco Gardumi, Shravan Kumar and Camilla Lo Giudice have been the trainers of many new enthusiastic modellers from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, India, Cameroon, Uganda and Bolivia to skill up in CLEWs and bring back the energy to start training programs and curriculums on their own!

Our new Phd student Camilla, was additionally part of the new “train-the-trainer” event ever held at an EMP, organised by KTH on behalf of IAM COMPACT project and in collaboration with CCG and RE-INTEGRATE. Training trainers is indeed considered by all to be at the core of capacity development and knowledge sharing, and a fundamental step to build communities of practice.

Finally, it was a great opportunity also for getting to know and integrating in our team Alizon Trinity Huallpara Lliully from UMSS in Bolivia, who will be joining us in the division for the next 8 months. Since she will be working on CLEWs she joined the EMP-G as well as a participant and guess what? She has been picked among the best CLEWs models and she has been called for the final presentation!
