KTH-dESA researcher Alexandros Korkovelos present his award winning research

2017 World Hydropower Congress
On May 9th dESA researcher presented his award-winning research on small-scale hydropower potential in Sub-Saharan Africa at the 2017 World Hydropower Congress in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. As reported in previous Newsletter, Mr Korkovelos was selected as one of three winners of the 2017 Young Researcher of the Year award.
Mr Korkovelos research was carried out in response to ongoing global dialogue on energy poverty and in view of the region’s plentiful renewable resource potential. Using open-source geospatial data covering 44 countries, and taking into account environmental, topological and social constraints, the research identify of 15,599 potential hydropower sites across the subcontinent, including micro and small-scale potential.
