Cost-effectiveness of energy efficiency investments for high renewable electricity system
Suggesting a new methodology for quantifying the economic impact of energy efficiency investments in systems with high shares of RES and estimating the LACoSE value.
A new publication by Dranka et al (2020) aims at suggesting a new methodology for quantifying the economic impact of energy efficiency investments in systems with high shares of renewable energy sources. In addition, it provides a new procedure to estimate the Long-term Average Cost of Saved Electricity (LACoSE). The paper utilises an OSeMOSYS-GAMS model of Brazil to develop the power scenarios used as the basis for the analysis. The outcomes of this study show how energy efficient measures would contribute to lowering the installed capacity of fossil-based power technologies, while maintaining the high share of RES that characterise already the Brazilian power sector.
