Applying the South America Model Based (SAMBA) in OSeMOSYS to investigate regional energy security strategies across South America
A new article by Thauan Santos looks at the benefits of regional interconnections across the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) member countries respectively. The paper utilizes the South America Model BAse (SAMBA) created in OSeMOSYS by Gustavo De Moura et al. as basis for the development of long-term scenarios to investigate the impact of higher integrated electricity networks across South American countries. The paper looks at both technical and economic issues linked to the proposed solution. The outcomes show how the suggested future development of the system might benefit in terms of reduction in new installed capacity and in environmental and socio-economic impact.
