New publication analyzing decarbonization pathways for China's energy system

Using the GENeSYS-MOD model based on OSeMOSYS

Colleagues from TU Berlin  have just published a new paper in Applied Energy  focusing on different decarbonization pathways for the Chinese energy system. To perform their analysis they used the Global energy System Model (GENeSYS-MOD) , which is a GAMS-based application of the OSeMOSYS  code developed at TU Berlin. The paper analyses the impact that the different decarbonization pathways can have on electricity, transport, heating and industry. The results shows how current trends will prevent China from meeting the climate target as from the Paris Agreement. The authors highlighted how significant reductions in CO2 emissions, linked in particular to coal usage, are needed. In additions, they suggested that renewable energy sources and incentives in support of low carbon technologies should be further deployed to support the transition away from coal.
