Modelling tools for sustainable development

In the 2019 edition of the ICTP Summer School on Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development - OpTIMUS , held at the ICTP  in Trieste, Italy, 15 participants from 12 different countries were part of the OSeMOSYS track. During 2 weeks and a half of intensive training, the participants developed country-specific models to investigate energy sector challenges relevant to each case. An overview of the modelling exercises was presented on June 25 to all the participants in the school and in the poster sessions during the High-Level Meeting (HLM)  event on 27 and 28th of June. Dr. Uyanga Gankhuyag  (UNDP), participant of the OSeMOSYS track, presented the analysis performed with OSeMOSYS for the country case of Mongolia on the first day of the HLM. Training on the OSeMOSYS track was conducted by Taco Niet  (SFU);  (KTH); Paul Friley (Independant consultant);  (KTH),  (KTH),  (KTH) and Abhishek Shivakumar (KTH /UNDESA/ UCL). The HLM also discussed the need for free and open tools that could be influential to bridge the gap in the science policy interface.
