Training future Ethiopians energy system modellers

The  in collaboration with the University College of London (UCL) , the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAIT) and the Policy Studies Institute (PSI)  conducted the first Energy Systems Modelling workshop in Addis Ababa Institute, Ethiopia. The workshop, held on the week of 20th-21st August and counted with the participation of 20 government officials from several ministries and agencies as well as academics. In addition, the 2nd project meeting of the project "Energy system development pathways for Ethiopia"  held during 22-23 August where the aforementioned institutions/partners together with representatives from the Ministries discussed about the outcomes of the project and identify ways to inform policymakers. The project is funded by the Oxford Policy Management Institute  – Department for International Development – UKAID . KTH dESA researchers Ioannis Pappis  and  introduced the participants to the main concepts of linear programming, energy systems, and energy systems modelling and in the use of the medium to long-term energy planning tool OSeMOSYS. During the workshop, the attendees had a hands-on session on a simplified model of the power system of Ethiopia.
